LEADERS FOR THE DIGITAL AGE I was reading the report jointly released by MIT SMR magazine & Cognizant about Leadership for the Digital Age. They get to the heart of the problem: 1. Leaders are not as prepared as they think they are. They are not digitally savvy. But they control the decision making. That can truly slow down the organization. 2. They often promote people based on criteria that worked in the analog world. The people who get promoted are a strong reflection of what the org culture ACTUALLY values. Those are the behaviors that get replicated across the business. 3. The tension between the analog world and digital slows down execution. The digital world needs distributed leadership - not a single decision making source. Does that sound like an organization you know?? Look forward to your views and suggestions. When you comment here, it gets read by THOUSANDS of people. Your ideas may drive change in some organization. So don't hold back. Here is the report https://lnkd.in/dJrkUYm -------- Email me: [email protected] Follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and of course LinkedIn @AbhijitBhaduri
Great thought. I believe Leader need to be open minded, should able to analyse the risk and give direction. This is irrespective of analog or digital world. I second the thought of distributed leadership however that can only happen if leader is open minded.
Gen Z's cognitive IQ towards Digital technologies is too much, incomparable to preceding generations. So what is his/her mindset? Only a fellow Gen Z can understand. Current leadership is all old world. This problem doesn't have a solution until a Gen Z gets into leadership. And they are far too young in wisdom and hence this is going to take a long time.
Just what was discussed at the #HRPA2020?session in Toronto yesterday Abhijit Bhaduri
Excellent Abhijit ?? Very well portrayed? and you have brought out the essence of leadership in the new age …..
Abhijit - loved your illustration ??Thank you for giving visual meaning to our study and also for helping to spread the word ?? We had briefly met in XL in 2011 when you came to address our PRM batch.
Point 2 is quite insightful.? Your overall post reminds me that whether digital or analog, leadership will continue to be #situational?and yes, will require distribution.? I think Semco (Ricardo Semmler)has already been doing this stuff, for years.
Wonderful Visual Representation ????. TFS
Thank you for sharing Abhijit This is very precisely outlining what leadership is about in the digital (and sustainable) world. Leadership definitely changed and today it is much more about removing friction - and then get out of the way - so the team can deliver. The goal is to foster creativity and continous innovation as the study draws up in the conclusion Maybe this change management paradigm will interest you https://acadal.com/people-led-growth/. It is a continous proces and methodology that is build on the cultural and leadership traits described on your infographic.
Abhijit, that oddly sounds like most orgs we know. It would be really valuable if you could list a few orgs that have actually managed to move to a more distributed leadership model!
