?? Thanksgiving is still a pretty new concept for me, but I love the idea behind it—taking a moment to pause and feel grateful for the good things in life. It’s so easy to get caught up in work, stress, or just the day-to-day rush that we forget to notice the little things that make us happy. Recently, I started this simple habit: every night, I write down 5 good things from my day (I use a messaging app on my phone). They don’t have to be big—just moments that made me smile or feel good. Like a great working session where everything clicked, a 1:1 meeting that boosted my focus, a nice walk in the morning, a tasty lunch, or even finishing a good book. It’s been helping me teach my brain to enjoy the little things in life, even on the busiest, most stressful days. And honestly, it’s such a good way to end the day—it reminds me that there’s always something to be grateful for, no matter what. So, as Thanksgiving gets closer, I want to share this habit with you. Try it out—write down 5 good things from your day, even if they seem small. It’s amazing how much those small moments can add up when you take the time to notice them. Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving season! ??

It’s Christmas season, and the household decided that my “secret recipe” Christmas cake had matured long enough… so, we sliced it, air fried it, sugared it (etc) and ate it! How long had it matured, I virtually hear you asking? Much longer than you think. So, Christmas quiz time: What’s your guess? And, yes, it was delicious - if, probably, very difficult to ever repeat. But, such is the way with all things: they are transient. We preserve and sustain and scrimp and save but, despite many an archaic belief, you can’t take it with you. Hence, we ate a cake that will never likely be replicated. And? We enjoyed it! Save and be ready for emergencies. But don’t not do what you want to do for fear of tomorrow. Rather fear no tomorrows and be alive today. Yeah, yeah. I turned Christmas cake into a podium for morosely moralistic philosophising! Somewhat expected as year end approaches and we each begin our fervent annual navel gazing, our perennial period of reflexive introspection and retrospective analysis… “What did I do wrong last year?” “What can I do to make next year better?” “What is ‘better’?” Deep Thought sought the dolphins and the mice for such profundities…and that poor whale spent its short, sudden, plummeting existence futilely pondering much the same… ?? My advice? Spend less time on such subjective enquiry and simply enjoy the holidays… and some Christmas cake, if you can get it!

Every no is an opportunity to say yes to something better. Hosting Thanksgiving is often a balancing act of trying to fit everything in and make it all “perfect.” This year I intentionally chose a different approach. I said no to the things that didn’t bring me joy or meaning, so I could say yes to what truly matters. Here’s what I let go of: ? Checking email or scrolling social media ? Making dishes that don’t spark joy (no stuffing!) ? Cooking everything on Thanksgiving day ? Stressing over a perfectly clean and decorated home Here’s what I gained: ? Time to call and message people who matter ? Sweet, uninterrupted moments with my family ? Real memories captured with my good camera ? Permission to myself to lean into the joy of Christmas music and decor. It makes me happy, so why wait? TIME Real, unhurried time to just BE. We can’t say yes to everything and when we try, we often lose what matters most in the shuffle. As I reflect on Thanksgiving, I’m reminded that sometimes the best memories come from focusing less on doing and more on being. What strikes me most is how often we cling to the idea of “doing it all,” even when it doesn’t serve us. Letting go of the unnecessary gave me room to enjoy Thanksgiving rather than be hurried. As we step into the rest of the holiday season, I’m carrying this mindset with me. Because the best memories aren’t built on perfection, they’re built on presence. What’s one thing you’re saying no to this season so you can say yes to what matters most?

If you celebrated Thanksgiving this past weekend, you likely observed that most people tend to talk at you, not to you... draining your battery like a phone toasting in the sun. And if you read that and thought, "hmm, I didn't notice that..." well, you're likely one of those people -- sometimes known as "a talker." So with more holidays on the horizon, here's a quick, "How to not talk at someone, Turkey edition." 1. ?? Before a chat, think of 1 thing you want to learn from the other person or ask them about. 2.??Actually listen to what they have to say. The only way this works is if there's something you genuinely want to learn or hear about from them. And if you don't actually care, at least toss in a few head nods and a clarifying question. 3.?If while speaking, you realize the other person didn't ask you a question, you're likely talking at them and they're likely looking for a way out of the convo. Wrap up what you're saying and give a pause -- if they say something like, "that's great," you've been talking at them big time. TL:DR 1. Be curious about something 2. Actually listen 3. Be self-aware of rambling Anyone else make a similar observation during Thanksgiving?

Christmas, Chaos, and Clarity – Redefining the Festive Season Post 1: The Christmas Compass – Finding Your True North Christmas often feels like being caught in a blizzard of expectations. Should you say yes to every invitation? Buy the latest must-have toys? Be the “perfect” host? The truth is, you can’t steer through the season without knowing your true north—what matters most to you. The festive season has a way of pulling us into other people’s priorities. It might be the in-laws insisting on traditions that don’t feel meaningful to you or the pressure to keep up with picture-perfect social media posts. Over time, we lose sight of what makes Christmas ours. Think of your values as a compass. They guide decisions that align with who you are. Is connection more important than gifts? Is simplicity what you crave? When you use these as your guide, you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed by others’ expectations. Coaching Activity: Define Your Festive Values Write down three things that make Christmas meaningful for you. Is it quality time with family? Acts of kindness? A sense of calm? Use these values to filter your decisions—say yes to what aligns, and gracefully decline the rest. #values #christmas #priorities #coaching
