When you could fly from JFK into Manhattan. New York Airways was established in 1949 as a mail and cargo carrier. Over time, it expanded its services to cater to passengers traveling to and from major airports in the greater New York City area. From its humble beginnings with the Sikorsky S-55 helicopter, which could accommodate eight passengers, New York Airways rapidly expanded its fleet. In 1956, the Sikorsky S-58, capable of carrying up to 12 passengers, was added. This growth continued with the introduction of the Vertol V-44, which could carry 20 passengers, and the Boeing Vertol BV 107-II, seating 25 passengers. The airline's last aircraft, the Sikorsky S-61, could accommodate up to 25 people, marking a significant milestone in its fleet expansion. The commercial helicopter service provided a fast, scenic, cost-effective airport commute option. However, there were downsides as well. The increasing fuel prices made profitability challenging to achieve. Helicopter noise posed a problem, and safety concerns were a significant issue. Unfortunately, the carrier ceased operations in 1979 due to unfortunate circumstances and tragic events. #aviationphoto #aviationphotography #civilaviation #stockphotos #zoggavia #boeing #newyorkairways #slides #kodak #kodachrome #classicaviation #helicopter The image shows c/n MSN 5 N6675D Boeing Vertol 107, the civil version of the CH-46 Sea Knight tandem rotor helicopter used by the US Navy, US Marines, and other nations, of New York Airways in Manhattan, NYC, 1963. During the opening day of our Cargo Symposium, FedEx Pilots Capt. Rich Hughey, chair of the ALPA Cargo Committee, led a robust discussion on the threats currently facing cargo pilots today. Joined by pilot leaders from CargoJet, Atlas Air and ATI Pilots, as well as a representative from our legal team, panelists talked about current and upcoming threats to the profession. The very nature of all-cargo operations requires pilots to fly at all hours of the day and night in and out of the same airports and in the same airspace as pilots flying passengers, yet cargo operations don’t necessarily have the same level of services available. #Aviation #AviationSafety #AvSec #AviationNews #ALPACargo

Delta Air Lines' Boeing 767 aircraft was airborne for approximately 33 minutes after leaving Kennedy International Airport in New York for Los Angeles when its crew noticed problems near its right wing emergency exit slide. Delta Flight 520 had been scheduled to take off on Friday, April 26, at 7:15 am and returned to the airport at 8:35 am after pilots declared an emergency to air traffic controllers. Upon landing, it became apparent that the aircraft’s emergency slide had separated from the plane. The plane, a version of the Boeing 767, was manufactured in 1990. #Boeing has recently also faced heightened scrutiny over Boeing 737 Max jets. Two crashes in 2018 and 2019, causing the loss of nearly 350 lives, raised safety concerns about the planes. In January, a fuselage panel tore off an Alaskan Airlines flight, leaving passengers to a frightening ordeal as winds whipped through the cabin. Nobody was injured, but the pilots were forced to make an emergency landing, and the Federal Aviation Administration grounded some 170 Boeing 737 Max 9 planes as a precaution. . . . . . . . . . #deltaairlines #indianamerican #indianamericans #desiamericans #americanindian #americandesi #usindians #usaindians #indiancommunityinusa #indiancommunityusa #desiinamerica #usatoindia #indiansinwashington #newyorkindians #californiaindian #indianinphiladelphia #sanfranciscoindians #desiinsanfrancisco #unitedstatesofamerica #indianinnyc #indiansinnyc #nycindian #flightstoindia #indiatonewyork #manhattanindians #losangelesindians #indiansinlosangeles #indianinlosangeles #desiinlosangeles??

What is the difference between Airport, Aerodrome and Airfield? Airport: A place often with multiple runways where commercial aircraft regularly take off and land usually based on a schedule, it has buildings for passengers flight management (Control tower) and services such as refueling, maintenance etc. An airport is normally a commercial enterprise. An Airfield: is on a much smaller scale usually non commercial and used for private or irregular charter flights minimal runways and limited services can also be military. minimal if any control. An Aerodrome is an old English word that has been replace with the word airfield so aerodrome and airfield are the same. #airport #runway #aviation

Few could argue that 1970's start-up Air Florida had not "evolved" a fairly attractive paint scheme, one that certainly suited the company's name and Miami headquarters. The blue, green, and white ensemble looked particularly good when clean and captured in good sunlight, as was the case with this ex-United Boeing 737-222 "N62AF" photographed one day late in 1980 about to return to earth at MIA. This livery made it onto the company's 727-200, 737-200, DC-9-15, and DC-10-30 aircraft but was most common on the airline's large fleet of Boeing twinjets. After beginning service with a single ex-Pan am 707-321 in 1972, Air Florida ultimately grew to fly nearly 60 aircraft. Unfortunately an at-fault fatal 1982 crash involving the subject aircraft of this photo-post in the Potomac River (immediately after departure from Washington-National), along with overexpansion, led to its demise in 1984. Notice the McDonnell Douglas Delta DC-8-61 on her gate in the lower left corner of this image. Interested in legendary Pan Am? Refresh What is a Runway Incursion (RI) What is a Runway Incursion? A runway incursion (RI) is any occurrence at an aerodrome involving the incorrect presence of an aircraft, vehicle, or person on the protected area of a surface designated for the landing and take off of aircraft. FAA has made Runway Safety a top priority, with a specific focus on developing new and more effective RI avoidance strategies. Runway Safety is a significant challenge and a top priority for everyone in aviation. In the United States, an average of three Runway Incursions occurs daily. Each of these incidents has the potential to cause significant damage to both persons and property. Runway incursions are a serious safety concern and have involved air carrier aircraft, military aircraft, general aviation (GA), and pedestrian vehicles. Runway incursions have resulted in collisions and fatalities. Fatalities have occurred at both towered and non-towered airports. A few seconds of inattention can cause a Runway Incursion. Causal Factors of Runway Incursions: Detailed investigations of Runway Incursions over the past 10 years have identified three major areas contributing to these events: 1. Failure to comply with ATC instructions. 2.Lack of airport familiarity. 3. Non conformance with standard operating procedure. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), it was determined that during the incident involving Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 on January 5, 2024, the door plug of the left mid exit door (MED) had detached from the Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft due to the absence of four bolts. On that day, at approximately 1714 Pacific Standard Time, the flight had to return to Portland International Airport (PDX) in Portland, Oregon, following a rapid decompression caused by the departure of the MED door plug. #AircraftMaintenance #AviationServices #FiverrGig #FlightSafety #ExpertMaintenance #LinkedInNetworking #AircraftMaintenance #AviationServices #FiverrGig #FlightSafety #ExpertMaintenance #AviationMaintenance #AircraftRepair #FlyHigh #FlightOperations #AircraftInspection #AviationIndustry #PilotLife #Airworthiness #AircraftMechanic #AvGeek #SkyMaintenance #FlightOperations #AirTransport #AviationProfessionals #SafeSkies
