Pre-holiday weeks are an important time at A&B. Orders increase, which means hours for our warehouse, drivers, merchandisers and additional support staff in the field do, too. How do we ensure everyone gets to enjoy their holiday? By inviting every employee out into the market to help deliver product, build displays, stock shelves and anything else we can do to help to make sure every partner we work with is ready for the long weekend. Without fail our entire team, from warehouse to front office, shows up in the market to offer support. These weeks are a prime example of the culture here at A&B—regardless of job title, we show up for one another. In the face of challenges, we know we’re backed by an unstoppable team in everything we do. Here’s to another great pre-holiday week. We can’t wait to do it all again next month.

What happens to “lunch” mid-career? ??Reflecting back, these 30-60 minutes are how some of my greatest relationships were built. So why are so many of us in our 40s+ sitting at our desks, dash dining alone or skipping it all together? Some may find their calendars stacked or save that time, eager to get home to families and activities. Others may feel a bit on the outside, just waiting for an invitation. Perhaps a few are introverts and prefer it that way, or have experiences from the past that tells them colleagues shouldn’t be friends. I don’t have the answer, but prioritizing a walk or meal at least once a month with people you spend a large percentage of your time with seems more reward than risk. What do you think? PS: try it! Waitressing at 17 got me to where I am today. It’s how I became Head of People at 24. I got my first long-term job at 17 to fund my dreams to go and travel. Since then, I’ve changed careers multiple times intending to learn as much as possible. But one area I have gained a lot of experience in is the restaurant business. In fact, I spent a total of four years waitressing part-time, on and off and it taught me a lot: ? Every day, I handled stressful situations and (more or less) friendly clients.? ? Created a calm environment for clients even when I was tired working night shifts after long days at Uni. ? I was managing people and avoiding fires and constantly planning ahead. Having to deal with “boring” tasks in a stressful environment, I got good at creating my own systems of how I work best. It became my mission to streamline processes. Once I succeeded, I started teaching other waitresses how to do the same. That’s exactly what I do at notus I, ?Simplify processes ?Keep HR systems organized ?Find the right people that fit to our team at notus If I had just accepted the waitressing job's repetitive and mindless routines, I wouldn’t have learned to navigate and improve them. I wanted to make a change (for the better), so I did. The lesson here? The skills you develop in any role can be the foundation for future success, no matter if you like the job or not. I’m three months into my new role Accolade Wines, so I wanted to share some reflections and tips for those looking to take the step into a new role: 1.?????A great onboarding experience and the opportunity to meet as many colleagues as possible early on has led to feeling settled and in a routine quickly. Look out for how the company onboards their employees as this is a clear indicator for your experience beyond the first few months. 2.?????Use being new to the company as an opportunity to bring a different view to the table. 3.?????No questions are silly. What is common knowledge to others may not be to you. 4.?????You are more capable than you think! Take on new challenges, projects and experiences. It’s a great way to meet colleagues and gain a better understanding of the business. 5.?????Flexibility and trust go a long way. This culture has resulted in a workforce that puts in 110% alongside work life balance and allowing employees to develop and show initiative. So, for anyone currently looking into new roles, do your research! Check that the company aligns with you and your goals, then take the leap ??

Part-time hours, full-time impact: discover why it's never been easier to find a job. The first time I got a job, it was mostly because I didn’t want to rely on my parents' money anymore. During my student years, my priority was to find a job that would allow me to continue my studies while giving me some level of financial independence. And I admit, it wasn’t easy to find one that offered: ?? no need for prior work experience, ? part-time hours, ?? flexibility with my study schedule, and ??understanding and adaptability from my employer.
