Discussing race is inherently political. In Aotearoa NZ, conversations about race necessitate conversations about Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Here are some of the words I've heard recently. These are resonating for me in advance of the Toitū Te Tiriti Activation Day tomorrow. I offer these with humility and for your own consideration. ?? With respect to participating tomorrow or not, make a responsible decision...a mokopuna decision. ?? Māori are not in a transactional relationship with the government, we are in a transformative situation-ship. ?? When the tide rises, we must all rise. Like a rewana. Because we are "bred" differently. (This one made me giggle). ?? For the government to assume that they can repeal legislation after legislation; and take Te Tiriti out of legislation is wrong. Tomorrow is about sending a clear message not to do that. ?? Making mokopuna decisions means we need to activate on all fronts. We can do that because we are magic. Wishing us all deep breaths, loads of courage, and the ability to move in to action with informed perspective, creative brilliance and a mana-enhancing commitment to ourselves and one another. At the very least, navigating the troubled waters of ongoing, systemic, treaty injustice demands integrity, care and compassion. Mauri ora ki a tātou! Record low birth rates are leading to population collapse in Europe and even faster population collapse in most of Asia. Immigration is low in Asia, so there is no “replacement” going on, the countries are simply shrinking away. The film addresses the critical issue of fabricated criminal cases in Uzbekistan, stemming from witness testimonies and confessions obtained through intimidation, beatings, and torture, as illustrated by several trials during I. Karimov's rule. These practices, largely a legacy of Stalin's era where confessions were considered the "queen of evidence," underscore significant historical and ethical concerns. Changing these practices is crucial for Uzbekistan's progression towards a civilized, modern society. The documentary's focus on this pivotal yet often neglected aspect of the justice system is extremely commendable . Its capacity to educate, stimulate thought, and drive change makes it a vital tool for deepening the understanding of Uzbekistan's current state. To countless Indigenous people, Australia Day represents ‘Survival’, ‘Invasion’ and most regrettably, a ‘Day of Mourning’, yet every year Australia faces the same existential crisis over the hailing of its founding day. With such high levels of controversy; how should Australia salute this contentious day, if at all. For many of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the annual Australia Day celebration that falls on the 26 January, is a day with little to celebrate. Instead, this day commemorates the loss of their sovereign rights over their land, people and culture. So why do we celebrate such a painful day? “Australia is the only country that relies on the arrival of Europeans on its shores as being so significant (that), it should herald the official national day,” explained Aboriginal activist Michael Mansell. Very often projects or programmes cater for one set of solutions. Water ?? facilities? Climate proofed health center or schools ?? ? Climate smart agriculture ???? ? All these are needed to tackle climate change and more which can’t be predicted from a climate fund or donor headquarters office or from a capital city. The good news is that through #locally led #adaptation all these solutions can be identified locally based on local risks and unique circumstances with proven additionality. The other good news is that the model is scalable because it works through country systems. The population of 32 districts already benefits in Mozambique ???? and 12 x as many globally. Please meet some of the #communities and #local leaders who are driving #adaptation in Mozambique ????. They will explain better than me.
