Emotional intelligence is one of the hottest topics in personal and professional development, and for good reason. People with high emotional intelligence possess unique qualities that allow them to create positive, productive relationships and navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with ease. But what exactly is emotional intelligence? Simply put, it's the ability to understand, regulate, and express emotions, as well as the ability to perceive and influence the emotions of others. Emotional intelligence is not the same as IQ (Intelligence Quotient), which measures cognitive abilities and knowledge, but it is just as, if not more, important in many real-world situations. The benefits of developing your emotional intelligence are clear: ??Improved relationships and better communication; by being more empathetic and compassionate, individuals with high emotional intelligence build trust and create positive relationships. ??Stress management and improved job performance; in the workplace, individuals with high emotional intelligence are often better at managing stress and navigating complex interpersonal dynamics, leading to improved job performance and increased job satisfaction. ??Increased success and leadership potential; it is also a strong predictor of leadership potential and success. So, how can you develop your emotional intelligence? ??Start by taking the time to reflect on your own emotions and the emotions of others. ??Seek opportunities to practice empathy and self-awareness, and continuously strive to be more emotionally intelligent. It's never too late to start, and the benefits are immeasurable. Check out the added info in the images below. #IQ #EQ #leadership #emotionalintelligence #emotions #professionaldevelopment

What I am Reading #WIAR According to TalentSmart, a leading emotional intelligence organization, about 58% of job success is attributed to emotional intelligence. 75% of Fortune 500 companies use emotional intelligence training & testing. This is because emotionally intelligent leaders are more likely to remain composed under pressure, comprehend others' perspectives, and settle disputes amicably as it focuses on building a nurturing environment where team members feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and opinions, knowing that they will be heard and respected without any form of judgement. Emotional intelligence has a direct impact on how we react to issues on a daily basis. Picture s scenario where you find yourself ensnared in traffic before a gruelling day at work. Without the practice of self awareness, this setback might cast a shadow over your entire day. Frustration & agitation would reign supreme. Now envision the same circumstance, but with the added dimension of self awareness. Developing self awareness is an essential aspect of leadership that allows individuals to understand their strengths, values, emotions and limitations. It significantly enhances decision-making, communication & interpersonal interactions. This assertion is underscored by a memorable incident involving a managerial figure, in this context, let's address him as Hillary. Within a management meeting, Hillary found himself embroiled in a contentious dispute with a subordinate, which escalated into a physical altercation. Regrettably, his inability to exercise emotional restraint resulted in a breach of company protocol, ultimately resulting in the termination of his employment. Understanding your emotional triggers will help you deal with unwelcoming emotions like rage, anger & anxiety. In one of my mentoring sessions, Tony shared his experience when faced with disappointment by people, "I usually suppress my emotions of anger & rage. This usually gets to a point that I am unable to control the feelings any longer. Leading to regrettable outbursts". We all have different ways of reacting to matters. Tony's response may be considered to be extreme because of the blinding anger. Instead of letting his emotions rule him, he could have taken some deep breaths & counted from one to ten, contemplating the consequences of whatever actions he took in that moment of rage. In the absence of emotional intelligence, when you feel disappointed or hurt, especially by close & trusted people, you cling to your harmed emotions and transform them into anger and hatred, it could lead to loss of self control and eruption. This would simply intensify the negative feelings since this kind of emotion tends to grow stronger in aggravated circumstances.

?????????????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????? ???????????????? ?????? ???????????????????????? ????????. Psychologist Daniel Goleman, in his 1995 book, “Emotional Intelligence,” argues that emotional intelligence is about self-awareness, managing emotions, empathy, and building effective relationships. Philosophers have emphasized the importance of "knowing thyself" for centuries, and emotional intelligence is essential for developing harmonious relationships and achieving high performance. It encompasses four key domains: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. ? Self-awareness: Understand your emotions and their impact on your thoughts and actions. ? Self-management: Control your emotions to maintain focus and effectiveness. ? Social awareness: Practice empathy by understanding and caring about others' feelings. ? Relationship management: Handle conflicts and communicate effectively. Unlike IQ, emotional intelligence can be developed at any stage of life through learning and practice. For instance, improving listening skills, a key aspect of empathy, can significantly enhance your emotional intelligence. Effective leaders with high emotional intelligence inspire, motivate, and support their teams, creating a positive work environment. In contrast, leaders lacking in emotional intelligence often create stress and dissatisfaction, leading to high turnover. A great example of emotional intelligence in action is a New York City bus driver who transformed his passengers' moods with his positive and engaging attitude. His approach shows the powerful impact of emotional intelligence in everyday interactions. Emotional intelligence is essential for a better society. It fosters kindness, compassion, and effective communication, making our interactions more meaningful and our communities stronger. #EmotionalIntelligence #Leadership #SelfAwareness #Empathy #RelationshipManagement #PersonalDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth
