It’s 10AM and the studio is buzzing. The models are in makeup, the camera crew is setting up, and I'm in the middle of it all, making sure every detail aligns with the vision we've crafted. This is the part of the job I love—when everything starts coming together. In this shot, I’m double-checking that we’re hitting all the right notes for the brief. As a producer/director, my role is to take an idea and turn it into something tangible. From casting talent to hiring the right crew and equipment, it’s all on me to make sure the concept comes to life exactly as envisioned. Once we're on set, my focus shifts to the talent. It’s not just about getting the shot; it’s about creating an atmosphere where the models feel confident to deliver the emotion we’re after. Being a trained photographer helps here—I know how to speak the language of lighting and camera angles, which means I can guide the team and the talent effectively. Every shoot is a balancing act of creativity, logistics, and a little bit of magic. And that’s why I love what I do.

In the VFX industry, companies are allocated a fixed number of credits they can distribute to their team members for their contributions to a project. Often, the bulk of hiring occurs towards the end of a project to accelerate the completion of work, and this usually involves hiring highly experienced professionals. Despite their crucial role, many of these late hires, who are frequently senior artists brought in to ensure timely delivery, do not receive credit for their efforts. This issue is not limited to junior staff; senior artists also face the unfairness of being overlooked in the credits simply because they joined the project later in its timeline.

I’m reaching out to ask: Are there any VFX companies or studios open to hiring crew from different locations, even across countries? I understand there are many complexities and considerations behind the scenes in this global industry that I may not be privy to, and I recognize this is a business. However, as one city sleeps, there are talented artists in another part of the world who are awake and ready to contribute. When it’s voting time, we all vote—no borders, and we’re all happy when we win. But when it comes to working time, it’s all about borders, tax incentives, and restrictions. Perhaps it’s worth considering how we can shift the focus from borders to talent, allowing companies to thrive, while supporting artists in need. Without artists, there are no awards or box office dollars!
