Through our Creative Catalyst Fellowship, Houston-based artists Sonny K. Mehta and Aris Kian Brown collaborated to create “Sounds of Solidarity,” a series of short videos that showcase the shared experiences of Asian American and Black communities. The series integrates poetry in both English and Urdu/Hindi and an educational toolkit facilitating critical conversations about solidarity, anti-Blackness, and allyship. Hope is a Strategy.... We often remark that "hope is not a strategy" implying that it is not tangible, reliable or even adequate. In this excerpt from his Engage talk, artiste, creative and social activist, Juliani, challenges this premise. Watch the full video at: https://lnkd.in/d9HEf7TM

Latinx Spaces?will prominently feature Latinx arts and cultures. Our content will depart from Latinx positionalites, towards a space of political and intellectual dialogue. In doing so, however, we hope to avoid the pitfalls that befall identity projects. The goal is not assimilation, exclusivity, or even indoctrination, but the concrete development of pluriversal dialogues. While our content will be diverse, it will remain committed to one or both of these critical orientations: To disrupt those metanarratives that continue to sustain systems of oppression and exclusion.?? To bring to light Latin American dispositions and sensibilities through the promotion of Latinx arts and cultures.

?? ???? ???????? ???? ?????? ?? ?????????? ???????????? ???? ?????????? ???????????? ?????????????? ????????????????????, ????????-????????(???????????? ???????????????????? ??????????, ????????) Even though nearly four hundred literary texts from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain contain black characters, the presence of black Africans in early modern Iberia and their frequent portrayal in the era's literary productions have been largely erased from established Spanish cultural history. This book fills some gaps in Spanish literary history by examining the ways that black Africans both contributed to and consumed early modern cultural forms. Combining updated readings of well-known literary texts with original translations of newly uncovered ones as well as delving into archival documents, I explore how black African poets, musicians, dancers, and churchgoers navigated a restrictive slave society and negotiated their own cultural spaces.

"Empowering Voices Through Literature and Media: Uniting Through Stories, Music, and Republishing" is a mission that aims to highlight the voices of marginalized communities and bring attention to untold stories. By sharing our stories and experiences through books and TV shows, we can effectively bring people together and foster a more inclusive and compassionate society. Recognizing and appreciating the diversity of viewpoints is crucial in achieving this goal, as it allows us to create bonds that cut across boundaries and promote a feeling of oneness. It is also important to host these tales to ensure that our history as a people is protected, and that no voice is lost over time. Consistent storytelling is key to maintaining the depth of our cultural heritage and encouraging respect for other points of view. By coming together in solidarity, we can face the gaps in our history and work towards a better future where tolerance and comprehension rule. Let us continue to honor our common humanity and celebrate "the differences that make us unique," which refers to the idea that everyone has their own set of experiences, beliefs, and perspectives that shape their identity.

Being with the right people, at the right place is the game changer! In a social experiment conducted by Washington Post.. Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, dressed in casual clothes, stood near a wall at DC railway station for 45 mins. Few Passer-bys stopped there for few mins, few spared him a dollar and few gave few quarters. In total Joshua collect about $30+ in about 45 mins. Just days before this experiment, Joshua had performed at Boston’s Symphony Hall, where even the cheapest seats were over $100 and all seats were sold out. The Joshua Bell experiment shows that context and the right audience are crucial for recognition. It makes us rethink how we see value and talent in everyday life and highlights the importance of showcasing skills in the right setting. Whether in arts, business, profession, or personal life, being with the right people and place is key to getting recognition. Thoughts?

Good evening, everyone, and happy almost end of summer! As an author on their independent venture, I decided to start a Substack titled "Versed Vanity," a platform that empowers black artists, poets, and creators--myself included-- to share their works in a way that truly celebrates their unique voices and perspectives, while also building a supportive community for their art! Everything on 'Versed Vanity' is free, as it should be. I only ask that we all respect each other's work and the vulnerability it takes to create; as we all know, vulnerability is not a weakness but a transformative force in an artist's life. Versed Vanity's first post, "Do you have a minute?" will be released at 7:00 p.m. today. It describes the use, scheduling, ways to submit your art, if you are interested, and some beautiful funky art. If you have any questions, please message me here or on Substack. I am all ears and eyes. Thank you all, and remember that your art matters.

It gives us so much pride to share that 戏剧盒Drama Box’s Founder, Artist Kok Heng Leun has received an honorary doctorate from the National University of Tainan, for his achievements in the fields of academia, arts and education. We thank the National University of Tainan for the recognition, and especially Professor Wan-Jung Wang, who was instrumental in connecting Heng Leun with the community of arts educators at the University. In his speech, Heng Leun says “I have never written an academic thesis in my life; for over 30 years, I have engaged in dialogue with society, politics and culture through my artistic practice. A Reflective Post: FALA's year end function event was truly inspiring. We reflect on the address delivered by one of our guest speakers, Mr. Vuyo Dabula. He shared powerful insights on the lasting impact of apartheid, particularly on the dehumanisation of Black men. His reflections on his acting roles, which often mirrored the struggles of those affected by apartheid, were deeply moving. The discussion on the significance of FALA as a voice for the marginalised, including artists and creatives, resonated deeply. Let's honor the past by fighting for a better future. As legal professionals, we have a duty to use our skills to protect the rights of all, especially the marginalised. Join us in building a more just and equitable society. As the African saying goes "sticks in a bundle are unbreakable", we call for unity in building a better society and a better legal profession. Photography by: Tendani Musekwa
