Hurdle analysis What an outstanding conference idea! For the first day of Spinfortec 2024 (Symposium of the DVS Section "Sport Informatics and Engineering"), a live hurdle event had been organized, giving a large audience of conference attendees the opportunity to experience exhibitors demonstrating their tracking technology in a real-world environment. This allowed us to showcase the advancements of our markerless technology and highlight how easy our system is to use with a simple, streamlined workflow. Simi's technology can be seamlessly implemented in labs, on the road, and in fixed outdoor environments, offering robust tracking capabilities with our latest software, Nemo. A big thank you to Dr. Marcus Schmidt for organizing, the German Society of Sport Science (Deutsche Vereinigung für Sportwissenschaft (DVS)) and the Department of Training and Movement Science at the Technical University Dortmund (Technische Universit?t Dortmund) for their support! As visible in the video, only four cameras were used. Go markerless, go Simi. Choose experience! www.simishape.com #hurdle #trackandfield #biomechanics #motioncapture

Dear connections, I hope you all are doing well! With the conclusion of what has been a great semester, I would like to share with you one of the most exciting projects I have been a part of. This was the final project in the course ISD 514: Vehicle Crashworthiness and Occupant Protection, which I worked on with Raihan Lutfianto and Nishir Tripathi. The objective was to optimize the restraint system design for an occupant in a vehicle crash scenario. Owing to safety equity concerns, we chose to focus on an obese aged male driver, and due to limited existing regulations, we sought to simulate an oblique far-side frontal impact. Here are some key learnings that we took away from working on this project: ?????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????? ??????????: In an oblique far side frontal impact, the occupant has a higher tendency of striking the instrument panel due to inertia. Additionally, the nature of the impact causes the standard 3-point seat belt to roll off the clavicle and load the ribs, increasing chest injury risk. Furthermore, the head is subject to rotation with high angular velocities, thereby increasing brain injury risk. ?????????????? ???? ???????????????? ???????????? ?????? ???????????? ????????????: As the axial collapse force of the steering column increases, the injury risks increase, which can be attributed to the stiffening effect. As the airbag diameter and inflation rate increase, the injury risks decrease, since the area of safe contact becomes larger and quicker to access, thereby improving the distribution of impact forces. ?????????????? ???? ??-???????? ????????????????: As the rearward offset of the D-Ring position from the baseline is increased, the overall head rotation and belt slippage is reduced, which decreases the brain and chest injury risks. We believe that this effect will be more pronounced when combined with advanced restraints like a 4-point belt equipped with different load limits on each shoulder to control torso rotation. We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Jingwen Hu for his guidance, and we are immensely thankful to University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute UMTRI for providing us with access to state-of-the-art finite element simulation models. Here's a presentation that we put together to summarize our findings.
