?????? I learned so much from the Cornell Debate Team!! If you have a high school or middle school child, you should send them to Summer Debate Camp at Cornell!! Sat 7/27 - Mon 8/5, students live in the dorms, taught by Cornell professors, make friends with 200 classmates from all around the world!! My favorite part of debate, is how you are Assigned a side to debate, so you have to formulate arguments even if you don't agree with your side, I learned to see everything from multiple sides!! Debate is an important part of Freedom of Expression, it teaches you to listen, to form arguments!! I think every Cornellian should participate in Debate Team!!

?? The second edition of our semester-long international online seminar, featuring European and U.S. universities and NGOs, keeps going strong! ?? Exploring how to shape democratic landscape transformations is at the heart of the project OLA - Open Landscape Academy. Drawing from landscape democracy theory and participatory practices, OLA aims to create an inclusive model. Landscape democracy lies at the intersection of landscape and human rights, forming a crucial aspect of OLA mission. ?? Our goal is to prototype a model that values academic and local knowledge, professionalism, and creativity. We prioritize historically underserved communities, striving to give them a voice in shaping their landscapes. Our approach is both global in scope and locally applied. In this phase, OLA course activities aim to map, explore, and deepen students' understanding of critical concepts and theories. As planners and designers, their role in promoting democratic landscape change is vital! For this reason, they've been tasked with crafting a visual manifesto on landscape democracy.?This will spotlight their grasp of the landscape-democracy connection. Check out how students are mapping their local landscape democracy challenges! ? Want to learn more about OLA? Towards the Open Landscape Academy - Ledwiki (hfwu.de) ?? Ever wondered about the unseen mechanics of why it works to ‘pay it forward’ and why it hurts to hold back from giving or to take? These mechanics apply to all actions. It’s in fact universal law that one cannot receive that which one has not given, and all that one can keep by taking is a block to manifesting abundance. We’ve all heard the saying, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’ - this video briefly describes the wave-field science behind it. I don’t know if you have heard of the Abundance Movement yet - but it’s a new platform about to be unveiled that many see as being geared towards rewarding its participants for working with universal law. In a world that has historically been based in survival of the fittest, and taking as much as possible, this new platform will stand out as an OG example of ‘the new way of being’ that can only multiply the desired change that one puts forward. Let me know if the comments if you’d like more info ?? #abundancemovement #dreamstolegacy #interchangingpoint #mysrt https://lnkd.in/e9Q7Fv8C

When listening to students and parents talk about education the common topics are based around grades, classes, subjects, how well they are doing, what they don't like etc. But to hear students talk about interesting ideas, engaging with questions about those ideas, and the books they are reading - that changes so much. Knowledge becomes personal and meaningful. This is a great article exploring the nature of knowledge and the place for books in education.
Charlotte Mason speaks about knowledge in a personal way. It is not mere information; nor is it to be confused with learning. It is conveyed by Spirit to minds prepared to receive it. It is mysterious, but it is the way one grows and becomes more of a person. Growth is what God intends for us. Yet, growth does not occur if mind does not encounter, and receive, knowledge. A while ago, I (Maryellen St. Cyr) was reading with fourth graders about description. Working through a paragraph by George Eliot, we came across the phrase happy irregularity, describing the growth of lichen on a brick wall. Eliot personified what she saw, and these young readers received knowledge of lichen, description, and the beauty (and proper use) of language. This encounter conveyed meaning to the students and was added to their lives in the form of knowledge. What do they have to show for the time spent with this paragraph, for their mind’s encounter with knowledge? They give attention to words, to meaning, to lichen. They have become more of what it means to be a person; they have grown. Read the Ambleside Article: https://lnkd.in/db62NtWr. #AmblesideSchools #AmblesideMagazine #AmblesideEducation

Introducing the 'Re-imagining Discipleship' Series - a collection of insights and reflections from Seed's 2023 Summit. In this first post, Seed's Global Development Lead Ant Sell wrestles with the challenge of sharing the Good News, and inviting those within our community who do not know or share in God's story to participate. In his reflection, Ant tackles the question of what it means for our relationships with people who have yet to accept God into their lives. How might we embody a sacrificial posture toward them? Pi Day is tomorrow! What are you doing to celebrate? ?? Did you know that π, the mathematical constant representing the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, has fascinated mathematicians, scientists, and enthusiasts for centuries? Here are 3?? intriguing facts about Pi to celebrate this mathematical marvel: 1?? Infinite and Irrational: Pi is an irrational number, meaning it cannot be expressed as a simple fraction, and its decimal representation goes on forever without repeating. Mathematicians have calculated Pi to trillions of digits, yet it remains an endless, non-repeating sequence. This property makes Pi a symbol of mathematics's infinite complexity and beauty. 2?? Ancient Origins: Pi has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Ancient civilizations such as the Egyptians and Babylonians approximated its value, but the Greek mathematician Archimedes made significant strides in understanding Pi around 250 BCE. Archimedes used a method of inscribed and circumscribed polygons to approximate Pi, laying the groundwork for future mathematicians to refine its value. 3?? Unexpected Applications: While Pi is often associated with geometry and trigonometry, its applications extend far beyond mathematics. Pi appears in various fields of science and engineering, from physics and statistics to computer science and cosmology. For instance, Pi is crucial in understanding wave phenomena, such as the distribution of prime numbers, and even plays a role in designing the algorithms used in modern technology. Check out this great lesson from TED-Ed with Reynaldo Lopes as he discusses how pi has numerous implications in the study of music, financial models, and even the density of the universe ?? Let's marvel at the wonders of this seemingly simple yet infinitely complex number. Whether you're indulging in a slice of pie or pondering the mysteries of the universe, take a moment to appreciate the enduring significance of Pi in our world. #MTBoS #PiDay #Mathematics #Curiosity #Celebrate #Infinite #Pi
