Just as we thought we wouldn’t experience another Olympics until the 2026 Winter Games in Cortina-Milan, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has created a brand-new event set to debut in 2025 – the Olympic Esports Games.? ? The new event will come to life after the IOC signed a 12-year deal with the National Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia as a strategic partner. This event will be hosted “regularly”, giving countries frequent opportunities to snag a medal on the world stage. In 2024, we have seen the passion for esports rank ahead of some current Olympic & Paralympic favourites. - USA: Fans have doubled in the last 5 years, and as of 2024, passion currently ranks ahead of Table Tennis, Cycling, and Badminton - Brazil: Fans have almost doubled from 2018 to 2024 - India: Passion currently ranks ahead of Boxing, Gymnastics and Golf - UK: Almost 1 in 4 people in the UK claim to follow esports i.e. watched, streamed, or played, rising to just under 1 in 2 for those aged 16-34 Gemba Insights also shows that 2.7m Australians (12.7%) are fanatical about esports, an increase of 700,000~ people (+32%) since 2019. Who is more likely to be mobile & strong? - John (who was sent to gymnastics training 3 times a week for 5 years) - Niall (who was sent to play video games 3 times a week for 5 years) We naturally think John. But why? It had nothing to do with John or Niall's bodies specifically. If we switched John to video games and Niall to gymnastics, we would say the opposite.
