Important Topics in LPT for JRF 2025 Animal Science

Not throwing shade on cattle... Shade in feedlots has benefits for the overall welfare of cattle. Welfare being the recognition that animals experience stress, pain, fear, and can also be happy. In this case it is shown by behaviour and physiological responses to heat stress. But livestock are so amazing. And have such an ability to cope with stress and disease. Resulting in only modest gains for production in this experiment. Any feedlotters out there... is +0.13kg average daily gain over 70 days enough to get to excited about putting up and maintaining shade? And therefore is productivity the best measure of welfare? How should it be a consideration? How else can we support change for something that improves welfare but is a less clear driver of value?

Blood Collection in Chicken???? The most basic procedure an animal science student should master = blood collection! Used brachial vein a.k.a. wing vein bcs its way easier to identify (Vein splits into 2 branches forming a V-shape) Collected blood then will undergo Salmonella test!
