After our Southeast Asia workshop last month, we recently supported a multi-country 7-1-7 workshop in Central America. National Epidemiology Directors and public health emergency experts from seven countries gathered in Guatemala to determine how they can best use the 7-1-7 target to improve outbreak detection and early response in their respective countries. The workshop was sponsored by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization, and supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the #717Alliance, in partnership with USAID Guatemala and #SECOMISCA.

ICAP's Karampreet Sachathep, PhD and a team of co-authors including colleagues from ICAP, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the Cameroon Ministry of Health have published a paper on the seroprevalence of COVID-19 in #Cameroon, which was affected more than most countries in Africa: https://bit.ly/3TAKcEL The study found almost 100 times more cases compared to the number of cases reported to the World Health Organization. Developed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, National Network of Public Health Institutes and Public Health Accreditation Board, the Program supports state, local, territorial, and freely associated public health agencies with to improve the timely prevention and detection of public health threats by reducing the burden of data exchange between public health agencies, health care, and the communities they serve. Implementation Centers will provide resources and support to public health agencies for implementation activities. To be considered for Wave 1 (2024) of the Implementation Center Program, public health agencies must complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form by October 15, 2024. In support of CDC’s recommendations for decreasing the transmission rate of COVID-19, we should all strive to wear a cloth face mask (or a standard surgical face mask) when in public when distancing is not feasible. For example, going to the grocery store.
