FR Space habitats, energy generation & storage, & ISRU -"The French space agency CNES has announced a partnership with Spartan Space, the Institute of Space Medicine and Physiology (MEDES), and the sporting goods retailer Decathlon to develop a European intra-vehicular activity (IVA) spacesuit. Marseille-based startup Spartan Space has been selected by CNES as the project’s prime contractor. Teams from the four organizations began discussions for the project in December 2023 at Decathlon’s research and development centre in Lille. Development of the spacesuit is currently underway, with the delivery of a prototype expected in 2024. The prototype will, according to CNES, represent “an elegant synthesis of expertise and collective innovation.” “With the European ambition to contribute to future space missions with its own crews, France, with its skills and technological know-how, wishes to contribute to this growth by notably offering an IVA (Intra-Vehicular Activities) space suit,” Deputy Director of Exploration and Human Flights at CNES Sebastien Barde explained in a statement. The CNES IVA spacesuit initiative is being carried out as part of the agency’s Spaceship FR project. Spaceship FR was initiated in 2018 as a vehicle to lay the groundwork for future crewed missions to the Moon and Mars in several domains, including habitats, energy generation and storage, and in-situ resource utilization." Alongside Stéphane Isra?l of ARIANESPACE; Herve DERREY of Thales Alenia Space; and Philippe Baptiste of the Centre National d'études Spatiales, the discussion centered on how Europe can hold its own amid an increasingly competitive global space landscape. Eva notably urged Europe to transition from an ‘haute couture’ model to a more industrialized approach, warning that failing to make this leap could leave Europe lagging behind more integrated players. The panel concluded that Europe's success hinges on a more unified, coordinated approach between different players in the supply chain. State-funding for technological innovation, enhanced cost control and closely listening to and addressing customer needs will also be key enablers of Europe’s success as the space market continues to grow.

We are exhibiting CARL 1 & 2 at ILA Berlin 2024 ???? The Competing Aachen Rocket Launcher was Space Team Aachen’s first experience with high-power rocketry. CARL flew at the very first edition of the European Rocketry Challenge in 2020 and the Space Team Aachen was one of only three teams that managed to successfully launch their rocket and one of two that managed to recover their rocket entirely. CARL 2 was the follow-up project to STA’s first competition rocket. Its design was based on CARL’s and was successfully launched at the EuRoC in 2021 and flew to an apogee of roughly 2.9km, but its main parachute sadly failed, resulting in a rupture of the body tubes. Urban Air Mobility: The future of transportation! The last two days, our partner Jonathan Allwood had the great pleasure, to attend the DroneX Tradeshow & Conference and Helitech Expo in London. Beside some very interesting discussions with OEMs and suppliers from both industries, he was impressed how technologies are developing rapidly!! There are no doubts that in the near future guidelines as well as regulations are needed in order to utilize the technological and economic advantages of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle). One thing is clear. It will create some incredible opportunities in supply chains specifically in transportation, once the regulatory hurdles have been overcome.
