Today, I was delighted to return to the Pink Link Chorley meeting at Strawberry Fields, a networking event dedicated to supporting and empowering women in business. This gathering brought together a diverse group of women, all driven by the common goal of achieving success and fostering a supportive community. As always the meeting was filled with laughter and energy and a real sense of mutual respect. The meeting highlighted the importance of community and collaboration in achieving our professional goals. Supporting women in business is not just about promoting equality; it's about recognising the immense potential and talent that women bring to the table. By creating platforms like Pink Link, we provide women with the tools, connections, and confidence they need to thrive. These networking opportunities are crucial for building relationships, gaining mentorship, and discovering new opportunities. Here are a few key takeaways from today's meeting: 1. Community Over Competition: The importance of fostering a supportive community where women encourage and celebrate each other's successes. For me this is by far the most important aspect of the network. 2. Mentorship Matters: The value of having mentors who can guide, support, and inspire us throughout our professional journeys. Despite the fact that most of us work in completely different fields, just having the opportunity to have a sounding board outside your own business - a friendly ear to offer advice and support is so incredibly useful. 3. Networking is Key: Building a strong network of like-minded individuals who can provide advice, opportunities, and support. 4. Continuous Learning: Embracing a mindset of continuous growth and learning from each other's experiences. Let's continue to support and uplift women in business by participating in such empowering events and creating inclusive environments where everyone can succeed. Together, we can break barriers, shatter glass ceilings, and pave the way for future generations of women leaders. I love building relationships, to find common ground and to look for ways to cooperate with other business women. All the women I speak with instinctively understand and subscribe to the ‘two heads are better than one’ philosophy. It’s 2024, why do we still need to take action to empower women? I recently had the pleasure of joining the women, and some of their male supporters, of Sheffield Haworth to share my thoughts on this subject. As part of their Elevate programme for female colleagues we explored some key empowerment topics such as: ●??????developing strategies to take charge of your career. ●??????identifying and overcoming barriers that may be holding you back – both professionally and personally. ●??????assertiveness techniques to help you seize opportunities and achieve your goals. How do YOU help to advance ???? WOMEN in the workplace?! According to Jeffery Tobias Halter, Gender Strategist and one of his articles, we need to: 1. Listen More - know the stories and lived experiences of those around us! Have conversations with team members to better understand each other and their unique perspectives. 2. Learn More - consider the personal connection to your own ?? mother, ?? grandmother, ?? sister, friend, etc. How would their life look different if they had opportunity to advance in the workplace and use their voice?! 3. Lead Differently - how can you be an advocate for change and an ally to under-represented individuals? If you look around the room and see a lot of similar backgrounds, do you stop to question WHY? 4. Have the Will to do BETTER - embrace how diverse workspaces produce BETTER results and support thinking outside the box! This approach helps EVERYONE in the workplace - not just women, not just men!! This is an EVERYONE issue that we can ALL work together on! For years I have spent my life empowering other women. I am so blessed to have Dr. Marcea Whitaker in my life to empower me to go to the next level. The African proverb says if you want to go fast go alone but if you want to far go together. I am thankful for all of the women who like me, are dedicated to supporting other women. One thing that I learned over the years is that Relationships are the foundation to success because iron sharpens iron. It is time to examine who is in your inner circle. Who are you networking with?
