Yet, women continue to be underrepresented in the field; according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Women only represent 16.1% of all employed persons in architecture and engineering occupations. During our coffee(crossed) coding break, we discussed with pride that 72% of our team (5 out of 7 members) consists of women. We celebrate the exceptional performance and achievements of women in the tech industry. As we navigate the journey of building a startup, we’ve experienced various team structures, and it’s a moment of pride to reflect on the evolving landscape. While it is true that men have historically dominated the tech area, we totally believe that women are equally capable and bring invaluable contributions to the professional realm. It is inspiring to witness how this era has opened doors for women to work side by side with men, fostering collaboration, innovation, and growth. The Women in Tech Project is a transformative initiative by Kadosh Initiative for Justice and Environmental Development (KIJED) aimed at bridging the gender gap in the technology sector and empowering women to lead in the digital economy. Over the next three years, the project seeks to train and support 500 women tech entrepreneurs across Edo and Delta States, equipping them with the skills, resources, and mentorship needed to build and scale tech start-ups.
