Continuing our Paid Social hiring digest, here's a look at how London agencies have hired externally over the last 12 months. The chart below shows the level of the role hired (by typical agency title convention) + whether the person hired was stepping up from a more junior position or moving into a like-for-like role. 'Other' encompasses other move types, including hiring from talent pools overseas / outside of London + hiring contractors into permanent positions. At Exec-level, 'other' typically means new-to-market. The chart looks at external hires only, so does not factor in internal moves + promotions. #PaidSocial #hiring #digitalmarketing

If you don't promote your staff, someone else will. Not my words: the data hath spoken. If we exclude Execs who are typically new-to-market, 70% of (external) agency Paid Social hires made last year were through someone stepping up from a more junior role (as opposed to moving into a like-for-like role). This is a real problem at supply-short levels - chiefly Senior Execs and Managers, where reduced entry-level hiring and offshoring have reduced the size of the succession pool. Tomorrow we'll see the impact of that as we look at median experience by level versus median experience at time to hire.
