Anyone else okay with the amount of teeth in the coverage of this years NCAA Women's Basketball coverage???? As a women who is beyond elated to see the energy and focus within women's sports, I can't help but look at how the coverage of this years Women's March Madness is shaping up- from an ad stand point. We all know that when we create work with a strong POV we run the risk of alienating some, and galvanizing others ?? ?? .?This year we have seen countless pieces of coverage and ads that lean into the depth of the female competitive psyche.?And I'm here for it, as are many, many others. The grit, the focus, the perseverance, the pain, the triumph....it's all being captured. One can say we're leaning into the aspects of being a woman that makes other uncomfortable ?? ??. Undoubtedly, when we create work with a strong POV, we run the risk of alienating some, and galvanizing others. But leaning into a POV authentically is incredibly powerful, and this year's coverage is a testament to that. Can the "Caitlin Clark Effect" Go Beyond Basketball? ?? Let's recap: #CaitlinClark, the soon-to-be WNBA sensation, has dazzled crowds with her Larry Bird-esque shooting range, intricate passing and scoring ability. And her impact on women's sports and commerce? ?? Tickets to her games were nearly 200 percent more expensive. ?? Fans traveled hundreds of miles to catch a glimpse of her, lining up for hours before tipoff and boosting local economies. ?? Nearly 10 million people watched her play in this year’s championship game which brought record sponsorship opportunities ?? And...a significant percentage of men and women, when recently polled, indicated that they were more likely to tune in to watch women's basketball for this upcoming season. It's fair to say that Caitlin Clark has had an effect on basketball in a similar way that Serena Williams has had on Tennis or Danica Patrick has had on car racing. But can the "Caitlin Clark Effect" reach beyond basketball? ? In other words, what other areas where women have been traditionally underrepresented, are ripe for change? ?? Yet, despite this incredible performance, the women's tournament received a staggering 99% less TV revenue compared to the men's tournament, with the women's tournament bringing in $6.5 million for TV rights while the men's tournament acquired $873 million. ?????? ???????? ???????? ????. However, a new agreement ensures that the women's tournament will receive a substantially larger share of TV revenue compared to previous years. This increased attention puts media rights owners under pressure to invest in the category for future economic growth.
