?? Tis The Season...For Last Minute Tax Deductions! ?? As we approach the birth of Jesus this Christmas (hello? the real reason for Christmas!), it's the perfect time to reflect on the spirit of generosity and make a meaningful impact. At National Christian Foundation of California, we believe in the power of giving and using a #donoradvisedfund as a force multiplier in your strategy. If you've been putting off your giving and are scrambling to get it all done before the year's end, here are 3 Christmas-themed reasons why opening a Giving Fund with NCF (DAF) before year-end can make your contributions even more impactful: 1?? Deck The Halls With Legacy Giving: This Christmas, why not gift more than just fruitcake? ?? Establishing a Donor Advised Fund is like wrapping up your values in a bow and passing them down through the generations. If you want to pass values to your kids and grandkids, a DAF is the gift that keeps on giving, much like that fruitcake that seems to last forever (but with a much better reception). Give now and receive your deduction this year, and then grant out the funds in 2024 as time allows. Invest your fund to grow while you teach your family to give. 2?? Spread Christmas Cheer All Through The Year: With a DAF, you can amplify your generosity, spreading cheer and support to charitable causes all year round! No need to limit the festivities to December – let your giving spirit be as timeless as that Red Ryder BB Gun (you'll shoot your eye out!). The more you give, the merrier the world becomes! 3?? Sleigh Your Taxes with Appreciated Securities: By gifting appreciated securities through a Giving Fund, you not only support your favorite causes but also sleigh the tax game. It's a win-win that even Rudolph would approve of! Now seriously, don't be that person calling me on December 28th trying to open a fund before year-end. Let's do this now! #ChristmasGiving #DonorAdvisedFund #YearEndJoy #SpreadTheCheer https://lnkd.in/gepyBMVY

"Is In-kind Kinder than Cash? The Impact of Money vs. Food Aid on Social Emotions and Aid Take-up" by Samantha Kassirer, Ata Jami, & Maryam Kouchaki, which won the Fellowship 2024 Paper Prize and is also forthcoming in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, has been added to GPI's Working Paper Series. You can read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eGQwtwu7 Abstract: There has been widespread endorsement from the academic and philanthropic communities on the new model of giving cash to those in need. Yet the recipient’s perspective has mostly been ignored. The present research explores how food-insecure individuals feel and respond when offered either monetary or food aid from a charity. Our results reveal that individuals are less likely to accept money than food aid from charity because receiving money feels relatively more shameful and relatively less socially positive. Since many experts endorse the relative effectiveness of monetary over in-kind aid, we hope this research encourages scholars and practitioners to examine strategies to remove the shame associated with the take-up of monetary aid from charity.

As I finished last year’s Marathon, my first thought was “Never again” I had at 64 ticked a cherished desire off my bucket list as I had completed the 26.2 miles on a wet Sunday in 6 hours 10 minutes 17 seconds. As the soreness and chaffing eased off and the realisation of what I had done crept in, I felt that I really needed to run it again so I could actually enjoy the whole experience. Why because from around 12 miles I was running in pain thanks to a femoral nerve issue. So, when I heard about MACS (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia & Coloboma) a charity that supports children born without eyes or have underdeveloped eyes. It was a no brainer that I should run for MACS. While my own story is well known, what I have never disclosed was the story of my late cousin Ricky Bradley. Ricky was born in the early 1960’s with a number of medical conditions including cataracts which is a serious eye complaint, with his sight only being saved after a number of operations at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London. After hearing they were severely underfunded (nothing new there) my uncle set up a charity Research Into Childhood Blindness. As this will definitely be my last marathon, I would really like to finish on a high both on the money I can raise & also going sub 6 hours. Now whilst you can’t help me with my desire to go sub 6 hours, you can help me raise a lot of money. Now, as part of my agreement with MACS, I’ve been asked to raise £1,500.00, but what I would like to do is raise a minimum of £2,000 and this is where you come in. MACS is a small national charity supporting people born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes. Every year in the UK, an estimated 114 children are born with no eyes, with small eyes or underdeveloped eyes. MACS provides vital support by facilitating peer-support networks, organising events and children's activities, and funding research. MACS is here to ensure no one affected by these conditions feels alone. For more information about MACS conditions and how we provide comfort and support to people impacted by them visit www.macs.org.uk. Or if what I have said has "inspired you" or the thought of a 65 year old running through London wearing a red tutu and his beard dyed blue & red (shades of Roy Wood and Wizards) then please visit my JustGiving page https://lnkd.in/ezsC6Jq7

Another record set for Men Who Talk - this time for our web traffic! We have now passed 3,000 web visitors in one single month for February, and our monitoring is only currently up to the 11th! ?? Why is this important though? As you can see from the graph below, our web traffic has been growing consistently from a relatively low point a year ago. This marks a HUGE amount of work by the MWT team to develop our marketing and messaging strategy, and our continued learning programme of how to best engage our audience. But what do the figures really mean? Well, in crude terms, they show that for roughly every 225 web views, one of those signs up to our groups. For roughly every 700 web views, one of those actually attends one of our groups. But more than that, it shows that for February, over 3,000 people have seen our website, heard about who we are and most importantly learned about what we do. Regardless of whether those individuals ever actually use one of our services, the great thing is is that they now know they exist, and we're one step closer to creating a world where men feel actively encouraged to talk about what's on their mind, and supported in doing so. In addition to this, our figures show that hundreds of people are visiting our "Further Support" page, meaning that for those who feel MWT might not be the right fit for them, they're still finding organisations that may well be. ?? This milestone marks two years of hard work and learning, and demonstrates the importance of consistency and trusting your "product" - build it and they will come! All of this development has been possible by the trust and faith given to us by those who support us, especially The National Lottery Community Fund, who gave us the money and the opportunity to grow and learn, knowing it wouldn't be an instant success, but an important journey towards unstardnaing what success is. If you are a funder, or work in such departments, PLEASE learn from this: when you give money to charities to spend on what they need, and the faith to be able to spend it wisely, great things can happen! Here's to a VERY exciting rest of February as the below number continues to climb, and an even more exciting continuation of the hard work in the coming months!

National Make-A-Will Month Kicks Off Today! It should be a national holiday, with banks and markets closed. You should be home right now celebrating, not working. Until proper recognition arrives, I’ll use this month to share my "18 Reasons Why Wills Are The Way To Launch Your Planned Giving." Here are reasons 1-3: 1.?????Wills are the most popular planned gift, by far. Expect 75-90 percent of your planned gifts to be in wills.?They're the low-hanging fruit. 2.?????You don’t need to educate your potential donors. Nearly everyone knows what a will is, how a will works, and that they need one. 3.?????You don’t have to educate your staff before they can have convos with your donors. Ditto. That’s our kickoff! Please party responsibly during this weekend’s National Make-A-Will Month celebrations near you. I wish you a good (safe) weekend.
