The 10 ARTS Foundation is proud to partner with the New York Film Academy in turning creative potential into reality. As NYFA’s David Klein states: “By prioritizing arts education, we empower students to pursue their passions and fulfill their potential. We equip them not only with the tools they need to succeed in any occupation but to make their unique and meaningful mark on the world.” This shared vision fuels the 10 ARTS mission: to provide scholarships that enable NYFA students to explore their creativity without financial limitations. By investing in their dreams, we are nurturing the next generation of artists, filmmakers, and visionaries who will shape the future through their stories. It's #SocialMobilityDay in the UK! As someone who has worked in the UK film industry, it's important to address the lack of social mobility in this sector. Over the past decade, it has increasingly become a playground for the elite. It's often difficult to find established film practitioners without blue links in their Wikipedia bios or those who haven't been educated at some of the UK's best private schools. Film school, with its exorbitant fees, is becoming one of the only legitimate ways to enter the industry, thereby excluding a significant portion of society—those who are low-income or attended state schools. ? Over the last ten years, 40% of Oscar nominees were privately educated, yet they only represent 7% of the population. Without tangible access, we risk losing the Andrea Arnold's, Alan Clarke's, Terence Davies, Lynne Ramsay's, and other voices of tomorrow, leading to many of the UK's most important stories remaining untold. Let's champion arts funding at the state school level, encourage access to industry-standard tuition for low-income students, and as a result, enhance the film industry in the UK. The 93% Club

Indigenous communities or local communities need to strengthen their cultural and creative sectors to enable them to control their narratives and represent themselves authentically on the international stage. This involves preserving and promoting their cultural heritage, empowering creative individuals, and ensuring sustainable economic opportunities. This empowerment not only preserves and promotes cultural heritage but also fosters economic growth and social cohesion within Indigenous communities. For this to happen, a conducive environment must be in place, not only to encourage education on the creative economy but also to allow individuals and the local communities to thrive through the industry. Here's our case for the creative economy in Africa: https://lnkd.in/dxtCrKbz

We often think of films as little more than entertainment to be enjoyed leisurely. To the passive viewer, cinema is nothing more than plot, characters, and movie stars. We even judge a film’s success with a simple “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” scale. The goal of Humanities 101: Art and the History of the Motion Picture is to transcend these simplistic notions of film and arrive at an understanding of the complex history and artistry of film. We are in the middle of Black History Month (UK), and this year’s theme is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. There has been much discussion regarding this—was there a need to reclaim the narrative? Is there a greater need to promote the narrative among the black community? Is there not a more pressing need to promote the narrative in the mainstream? After 17 years of Africa Odysseys, the British Film Institute plans to end this unique initiative. It is the only programme of its kind in Europe, holding monthly screenings and themed events covering topics such as Black Cowboys and African spirituality. However, a decision was made to cut the pivotal role of Education/Film Programmer (Adult Communicator), an action which will take place at the end of 2024. The reasoning behind this is to save money while increasing diversity – a formula which rarely works. Without this key role, the initiative is expected to disappear. This is particularly galling as the new film by Sir Steve McQueen, Blitz, which looks at the bombing campaign in the East End through the eyes of a mixed-race youngster, was given its premiere at the BFI London Film Festival recently. A film that explores the rarely discussed story of non-white people living through the Blitz receives a prominent premiere, while a small initiative to explore and share similarly overlooked stories will go as the current Education/Film Programmer (Adult Communicator) is being made redundant. I have tried to find more but there is no information on its website (that I could see). If this has piqued your interest, more information about this situation and a petition can be found here #blackhistorymonth #blackukcinema https://lnkd.in/e4NtKKUg
