"????????? ???????? ??????? ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????? ?????? ??????????????!"
As a recruiter, it absolutely angers me when people who have likely never recruited or even hired give advice like this!
Why? Because this advice doesn't take into account the job seekers rejection and mental health!
Let me tell you a story of something that happened to me recently!
As I am about to graduate, I was nominated by some of my faculty advisors for an outstanding grad award.
There was no objective metric given on how anyone who was nominated and invited to apply would be evaluated.
I worked for weeks to get my application together, had friends and family review my letters and submitted for this honor.
I wasn't expecting to be nominated let alone win this award. However, when I got that rejection, it was an absolute gut punch!
I was chatting with my advisor and mentioned that I didn't get selected! She very seriously said, "now you can check off a rejection in your rejection accomplishment."
I was like "wait! Hold on! What do you mean rejection accomplishment?"
She then elaborated that every year she has a goal of receiving 10 rejections to anything she submits to any academic conference, journals, etc.
The mentality here, is that in order to receive 10 rejections, you have to have at least 10 submissions.
You're tricking your mind into thinking that the rejection, which is inherently negative is a goal accomplished!
Job seekers, if you're going to 'shoot your shot' and apply to jobs that are out of your scope, you should put these in this rejection accomplishment!
Or even, as you apply, you can create a rejection goal! For every x number of qualified applications you submit, you'll submit y number of applications where the job is outside your scope and that could be your rejection goal.
As someone who struggles with rejection and depression, I'll do a lot of things to get that dopamine hit!
Hence, I figured that I'd share another way to turn a rejection into a not negative thing!
Until next time,
Stay caffeinated!

I've never thought of a Rejection Accomplishment, but I like the idea of flipping the script on this experience. Applying to anything and everything does not account for the job seekers mental health or dedication to their search, and this needs to be talked about more! Well done!!!
