As I predicted in my Friday video, I said TikTok would be back quickly and the incoming administration would try to take the credit. There's lots of variables at play here, but the BIGGEST challenge? ??????
It's hard to talk about this without getting political. ??
I couldn't even decide which of these FOUR images (and there were many more) to share first. I went with the criticism of both outgoing/incoming gov'ts and the tech companies.
It's important to understand contextually all the variables at play, be clear on some of the hypocrisies across the board, and to listen to the legitimate concerns about the balance of power.
And things that affect 170 million Americans, global technology and policy decisions, it's hard to avoid the social justice and politics of the situation.
That said, 12 hours was pretty fast!
For me personally in Canada, I wasn't affected by the ban (yet...). But my head and heart go to a few things:
1) I'm glad 7 million business owners got a lifeline after losing their main method to support their families
2) I'd advocate for greater security features, especially for vulnerable kids, across all social media platforms and technology
3) I'd urge you to be deeply concerned and call out the hypocrisy and mixed messaging of both governments and tech corporations.
Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter and now TikTok are under heavy influence of certain powers. I would hate to see this spread in this way to YouTube, Google, and yes, even LinkedIn.
Finally, I've never seen such a whirlwind of activity among my creator community the past week. Wow. ??
These are crazy and disconcerting times.... I expect it to continue starting tomorrow.
May we continue to find ways to listen to each other, empathize with each other, show compassion for each other, support each other, especially the most marginalized, and build understanding. ????
