This summer, people are still headed to the beach, they just might pick a spot closer to home instead of Hawaii or Miami.
New from me: 80% of summer vacationers are changing their plans due to inflation, according to a new Bankrate survey. Two in three people say they're somewhat or very likely to go on vacation this year, but overall, people need to adjust their expectations to make it work.
So what are people doing to save money?
?? 29% are choosing less expensive accommodations or destinations.
? 28% are engaging in cheaper activities.
?? 26% are driving instead of flying to their destination.
?? 23% are taking a staycation instead of traveling.
?? 20% are using rewards points to cut costs.
Bankrate's Ted Rossman says people are being more thoughtful this year about how they're spending in light of inflation and interest rates.
“Prices were rising much faster last year at this time, but fewer travelers were adjusting their plans," he said. "Last year was also notable for the tremendous pent-up demand that was unleashed as COVID-19 restrictions and concerns began to ease.”
Can you believe it's almost May? How are you planning on changing your vacation plans this summer due to the economy? A staycation sounds really appealing to me, personally. ??
