Reddit reduces staff in restructure
Reddit is laying off approximately 5% of its workforce — about 90 employees — and slowing down hiring, as it restructures in efforts to break even next year, according to an email seen by The Wall Street Journal. Co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman told staff that Reddit plans to hire 100 new employees this year, scaling back its original plan to onboard 300. The cost cuts are happening as the company plans new revenue streams, including charging artificial-intelligence firms and other third-party developers for access to its data.
