PayPal to share more of your data
PayPal, like other payment companies, shares a fair amount of detail around its customers’ shopping habits with third-party marketers. But rather than pledging increased privacy, it says it will start sharing more next month — including, potentially, our pants sizes. Fortunately, the company’s policies on opting out are more clearly spelled out than those of many fintech and banking companies, The Wall Street Journal reports. Part of the larger challenge for consumers is that federal requirements for disclosing how data is shared haven’t been updated for a quarter-century, and combing through those policies for opt-out instructions can be cumbersome.

Can you opt out of data collection by PayPal and other payment systems? Can you opt out of companies sharing your personal purchase information with payment systems? There should be a "one-click" way, just as there now has to be an easy way to cancel online subscriptions.
