Networking starts with friendly chats

Networking works! Thanks to networking, I have gotten business; booked speaking engagements; and made wonderful friendships. I am naturally an introvert, so I know that networking can be difficult for some. This Vox articles underscores the importance of networking and tips on being a successful networker. In my presentations on the topic - as well as in my book, The Little Book of Big PR (Amacom/HarperCollins) - I advise going to a meeting, function, whatever, with three pre-planned objectives in mind. It can be meeting a new person; connecting IRL with a person with whom you have a virtual relationship (no Zoom screens separating you!); or getting in front of a new business referral. Those goals will give you a purpose and direction. Another tip - get to venues early. I find it's easier to be among the early birds rather than walking into a room filled with groups of people speaking with other (and filling rather left out). For those of us who hesitate to network and find it difficult, sharing a few facts that might show you that networking is a necessary social skill, critical to learning and growing. #networking Sharing some facts : 1. According to HubSpot,?85 percent?of jobs are filled through networking 2. Granovetter surveyed 282 Boston-based workers and found that 84 percent got their jobs through weak-tie relationships. The argument is simple: Those in your inner circles usually have the same information and overlapping networks that you do. ?????? ?????? ?? ???????? ??????????????????? I think many of us still go for a scatter-gun approach and we don't even know it.? What do I mean by this?? We go out actively and regularly and make new friends, hawk ourselves and our wares and leave the rest to chance or if there is immediate interest we follow up or get our team to do so. Few actually methodically collect names and add them to a mailing list to nurture over time. Even if you say you are not transaction-minded when you network, you still need a good system to keep people abreast of your movements and development. It is through the nurturing that your audience becomes comfortable with you and begins to trust you more over time.?And if or when you need something to be done or simply an answer to help you with, it's much more forthcoming when your network feels like they already know you.? https://flip.it/pNXVAo Some good tips. My recommendation, if you are too tired from the travel trip, it’s is OK to decline outings or networking hours to put yourself first. Making connections when you feel your best, makes for great interactions and positive impressions. If you are not up to it, listen to yourself and respectfully decline.
