Netflix taps its next film chief
Netflix announced it has named Dan Lin to lead its film business, following the departure of longtime head Scott Stuber, who is set to step down in March. Lin is the founder of Rideback, which produced Netflix's new live-action "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and previously worked as an executive at Warner Bros. He takes over at a time when the streaming giant is shifting to smaller budgets and fewer releases. There has been internal wrangling about whether to release Netflix films in theaters, but it's unlikely to rethink its "streaming-first strategy," per The New York Times.
