More cuts at Twilio, 1500 laid off
Twilio, a maker of customer communications software, announced Monday that it will lay off 17% of its employees. The cutbacks follow a previous workforce reduction in September, when the company let go of 11% of its then-staff. “The cuts make Twilio one of the first tech companies to announce a second major staffing reduction in the current economic downturn,” Bloomberg notes. The news arrives amid reports that Meta is also planning a second round of layoffs for as soon as next month.
- Based on the headcount cited in Twilio's most recent earnings report, it is estimated that the latest layoffs will affect about 1,500 people, in addition to the 800 or so cut in September.
