Mont. lawmakers pass TikTok ban
Montana is one step closer to becoming the first state to ban TikTok outright. On Friday, lawmakers approved a bill that would make it illegal to download the app or even have it available for download from any app store, The Associated Press reports. The ball is now in Gov. Greg Gianforte’s court. He has 10 days to act on the bill, which will otherwise automatically become law and go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
- The measure comes four months after Gianforte joined several others governors in banning TikTok on state-issued devices, citing “security concerns” regarding the platform.
