London Marathon sprints to equality
The London Marathon will this year offer wheelchair and able-bodied athletes equal prize money — becoming the first major marathon in the world to do so. The move, which will see all winners in the elite races awarded £43,500, has been hailed by eight-time London Marathon wheelchair racing champion David Weir as "a huge benchmark for disability sport". He added the he hoped "other races and sporting bodies can take note".
