Just how wealthy the 1% is
It’s getting harder to reach the 1%. To cross the threshold this year, an American would need to have a net worth of $5.8 million. That’s up from last year’s $5.1 million, an increase of nearly 15%, according to the latest wealth report from Douglas Elliman and Knight Frank. It puts the U.S. in fourth place globally in terms of the wealth necessary to pull ahead of the 99%. The toughest country to be considered the wealthiest is Monaco, where it takes $12.9 million in assets to reach the 1%, followed by Luxembourg and Switzerland.
