Job market pessimism grows
More and more Americans consider the American dream to be unattainable. According to a new McKinsey survey, Americans are more pessimistic about their level of access to economic opportunity this year than they were in 2021. Despite new data showing there are about two open jobs for every unemployed American, about 34% of those surveyed cited limited availability of jobs as the biggest barrier to employment. Other perceived barriers cited include reasons related to physical health, needing different experience or credentials and needing better access to transportation.
