Amazon is once again attempting to break into the?healthcare sphere, this time by offering?primary care to Prime members for an additional fee.?Yesterday, the e-commerce giant announced plans to offer millions of subscribers an annual membership to One Medical, a San Francisco, California-based primary service provider the company purchased for $3.9 billion in February
For?$9 a month or $99 a year, as part of this new plan, patients can access virtual care services, as well as?in-person visits at One Medical clinics across the U.S. (which may require additional payments either through insurance plans or out-of-pocket). This includes primary care services, such as preventive care, treatment for common illnesses, chronic care management, behavioral and mental health support, women's health, LGBTQIA+ care, and more.
Amazon Prime members pay $139 annually to access perks like?fast shipping services and Prime video streaming. Considering the standard price of?One Medical is $199 annually, customers can save up to $100 if they already have Amazon Prime.?It's an intriguing model but not a pivot for the company that has attempted to break into the medical sphere for years.
