Just home from a week in Cape Coral Florida - well, what's left of it.
Family down there, so we loaded up and headed south last Thursday. The scale of devastation is hard to comprehend until you drive through it and see it for miles and miles.
The army of utility companies that rolled in was unbelievable-
The Cajun Navy - Impressive.
Thank you Walmart for letting people park/nap in your parking lots while on the road.
Big shout out to Publix Super Markets - every store was open on Friday with their own generators running and serving their customers. Amazing!
Lowe's Companies, Inc. made it happen, sent what people needed, and lots of it. The line when they opened was 400+ deep.
All three companies opened ASAP, and a huge thank you to all of the local employees who stepped up and supported their community while dealing with their own issues at home.
What you learn.
These types of events bring out the best, and occasionally the worst, in people. But, mostly the best...
Functioning water & sewer is a treasure-
Most people still don't understand how to execute four way stops when lights aren't working-
Tile roofs really are hot-
Pack an extra chain saw-
Palm trees are very heavy-
Wear sunblock-
Still no power at one family's houses, but the generator is running, they have plenty of fuel, and most importantly - everyone is healthy.
Thank you to my team for taking over any responsibilities I had - little to no cell coverage and no time to think about work while there.
