How resume-sorting robots work
Applicant tracking systems (ATS) often take a first look at people’s resumes. TopResume’s Amanda Augustine said companies use the technology to wade through mountains of applications. “It’s just another way to whittle down the pile so it’s more manageable for those who are hiring people,” she said on the latest episode of #GetHired. To increase the odds of resumes getting good ATS scores, Augustine suggests:
? Pay attention to the content
? Pay attention to the format
? Use a Word document when in doubt
? Don’t put important information in the header/footer
? Pay attention to keywords
? Don’t get too creative
? Left columns are OK — but not right columns
