Hackers target US airport websites
A pro-Russian hacker group claimed credit Monday for a string of cyberattacks that temporarily disabled the public websites of more than a dozen U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International and Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta. The group, Killnet, specializes in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, in which a website is overwhelmed with traffic. No airport functions were affected by the hack, but it shows the growing boldness of Killnet, which has stepped up operations against Western targets after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
- Killnet claimed responsibility for knocking several state government sites offline last week, and the group briefly disabled a website for the U.S. Congress in July.
