Google halts AI image generation
Hitting pause: Google is retooling the image generation function of its Gemini artificial intelligence model — after some users said it produced racially and historically inaccurate images of people. In a statement, Google admitted the model was "missing the mark" in this instance, and promised to allow image generation of people again once it was fixed. Gemini users have posted numerous examples of the issue on X. Google launched Gemini back in December as a competitor for OpenAI's GPT-4 model, as the tech giants duke it out for AI dominance.
