Facebook says it could scrap news
News may no longer be a part of Facebook in the U.S., parent company Meta said, threatening to pull the feature if Congress backs the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act. If passed, the legislation would allow small publishers to negotiate payment with tech companies over the use of news on their platforms. However, Meta said the bill would "unfairly disregard any value we provide to news outlets through increased traffic," and that they would be forced to consider removing news from the platform.
- Meta's Oversight Board criticized Facebook and Instagram's 'cross check' program, which they said gave unfair preference to VIP users and put Meta's business above public discourse.

Facebook can negate news and politics all together! Give me the good ole days of seeing my timeline filled with stories of my friends and family doing life, the actual intention of the creation of this social media platform. Now a days my timeline is filled with ads and news articles every other post. Just stop it all together Facebook. I am sure there are many of us that would welcome this change.
