Expats flocking to host of new cities

I don’t see it… If I’m an ex-pat and in business, why would I leave Hong Kong? I’ve got an emerging market of over 70 million people in the Greater Bay. Lockdowns will be a thing of the past (at some stage), and I reckon it’s cheaper to live in Hong Kong now than in Singapore, for example. Because so many people are leaving Hong Kong, it’s offset inflation that other countries are experiencing. The likes of Singapore and Dubai are unique places, and id live there, no questions asked. Dubai, in particular, has the best lifestyle I've seen anywhere for an ex-pat. Fabulous place. I'll have the “lifestyle” when ready to slow down. Hong Kong keeps me sharp and on my toes ??

Since I have not bought a condo or house yet, I read articles like this (written by Alice Kantor, Saritha Rai, Archana Narayanan, and Andrew Rosati; published by Bloomberg LP) for inspiration. Would I consider a move to Kuala Lumpur, Lisbon, Dubai, Bengaluru (Bangalore), Mexico City, or Rio de Janeiro? Maybe. I would need to see the job offer first to fully assess the professional and personal growth opportunity. I have lived in 3 of the 6 on this list over the last 20+ years of being an expat. Great choices, Lisbon, Rio and my favourite, Mexico City.

At one point Jay and I considered the expat life (and seriously thought about a move to Singapore). With the continued issues around lockdowns in Hong Kong and insane cost of living (never mind the political situation) and the Singapore government putting increased barriers in place for imported workers, those two cities have lost some of their luster as expat magnets.
