Did festive trade make or break?

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported last month that retail sales leapt 7 per cent on the previous month, and 13.2 per cent on November 2019. That was largely thanks to a post-lockdown surge in Victoria, where sales were up 21 per cent. In the rest of the country, sales were up by a more modest 2.7 per cent on the previous month.
