Can car rentals drive EV adoption?
Picture this: You’ve rented a car and are given an electric vehicle instead of the conventional one you expected. Where will you charge it? Car rental companies like Hertz are ready to guide consumers into an electric journey with plans to add a quarter of EVs into its lineup by 2024. Some experts believe incorporating them into rentals could help more people embrace them. But even though public charging stations have more than doubled since 2018, not everyone is ready for electric: Only 4% of Americans currently own EVs, with 12% seriously considering purchasing one.
- The U.S. is “not quite yet ready” to compete with China in the production of electric vehicles, Ford Chairman Bill Ford Jr. told CNN.

I got an EV when on a vacation trip to Florida earlier this year from a national car rental company. I hadn't planned to drive more than the expected range of the EV sedan I picked up, so charging locations and range anxiety were not issues for me. Still, the hotel was was staying at didn't have charging stations and having to stop for any length of time to recharge would have been an issue.
