Can brick-and-mortar come back?
Even before the pandemic, many brick-and-mortar retailers struggled to compete in a world where you have the mall at your fingertips. However, the in-person shopping experience will likely never entirely lose its appeal. In April of last year, e-commerce was responsible for 25.5% of total retail sales, but decreased to 21.3% by December, Forbes reports, citing Commerce Bureau data. Many consumers miss the act of shopping in malls, so as businesses begin to operate at higher capacities, brick-and-mortar retailers could see a jump in sales.
