Calif. economy overtaking Germany's
California is catching up or surpassing some of the world's largest nations in terms of economic size. In fact, Golden State GDP is about to overtake that of Germany as the fourth-largest in the world (after the U.S., China and Japan). Not so surprising when you consider its three largest industries. California’s tech hardware, media and software sectors experienced sales growth of 63%, 95% and 115% over the past three years, respectively, while Germany’s health care, consumer discretionary and industrial products saw growth of 43% and declines of 2% and 7%.
- San Francisco has seen its share of the market capitalization of all public companies in the state grow to 78% from 70% five years ago.
