An airfare war is taking off
Rex, Virgin and Jetstar are flooding the local market with ultra-cheap domestic airfares, with one-way flights between Sydney and Melbourne plummeting to as low as $44 as demand remains cool amid the pandemic.

After Qantas recently announced it is improving offerings on domestic flights to encourage nervous flyers to return to the skies, other airlines are making a similarly aggressive push to drive demand. Rex and Virgin are engaged in a significant price war related to their most significant route: Melbourne to Sydney. Tickets are down to $49, which is cheaper than a taxi to the airport from most Sydney and Melbourne suburbs. Jetstar quickly responded to the move with fares as low as $44. As much as I love a cheap fare, is this not making it come across like a cheap airline? Not the best way to start if you will later on be charging 2 to 3 times that price. And how many full flights are you going to get at this stage with all the covid restrictions? Just my opinion.

But will people ?? .... the predictablity of night follows day that States will load up on restrictions really has shaken the market. Last BITRE figures showed domestic market still down 80%. It is a massive hole ??
