Amazon doubles down on delivery

We're now delivering for U.S. Prime members faster than we have in the 18-year history of Prime?(over 1.8B same-day or next-day deliveries so far this year). Customers really appreciate being able to get their items this quickly, and I’m proud of the invention and hard work from our teams to get to this point. We’re not done inventing here.

Amazon's operational efficiency is a model for improving #financialcycletime. #FCT is a metric of how often a company turns investment into collected cash from a customer. Amazon was a winner in our 2022 rankings at Duke Corporate Education annual rankings for being among the fastest retail online firms.

Amazon's success in delivering products in one day or less has set new standards for the #ecommerce industry. But they're not the only ones taking a giant leap forward! Other #retail leaders are also stepping up their game, replicating these fast delivery successes either independently or with the help of third-party providers like Deliverr Inc. Keep Your Foot On the Gas Amazon Makes a Splash Before Earnings Report Here's the TLDR since it's Monday morning: 1. Amazon plans to double the number of US same-day delivery facilities in the coming years. More than half of all orders placed by Prime subscribers in the 60 largest metropolitan areas arrived the same or next day in the most recent quarter. 2. The expansion comes as Amazon's online sales growth has slowed from its rapid pace during the pandemic. The new same-day facilities, will likely require building dozens of new facilities. 3. The investment in same-day delivery may receive a mixed reaction. While some may see it as a way to increase sales and make online shopping more convenient, others may be concerned about the upfront costs and the time it will take for the savings to offset the investment. ----- ----- You know from reading what I write that I don't advocate for pure speed as the best way to win. I don't believe Amazon is only thinking about speed either. Amazon is one of the largest shared logistics networks in the world (rivalled only by a few in China). They aren't building for next quarter, they are building for the next 15 years. They know that to continue to their value proposition and to continuing being an avenue of choice, they have to push the envelop and keep increasing the gap between what they can do versus everyone else. This is why retailers who try to do it all on their own struggle. The investments (both in infrastructure and technology) Amazon makes are next to impossible to support on your own.
