Airbnb buys 'stealth' AI startup
In its first acquisition since going public almost three years ago, Airbnb has bought Gameplanner.AI, which has been operating in "stealth mode," or out of the public eye, since its founding in 2020. The deal is valued at nearly $200 million, CNBC reports, citing anonymous sources. Co-founded by a creator of Siri (now owned by Apple), the startup will be "accelerating select AI projects and integrating their tools into our platform," Airbnb said in a statement. CEO Brian Chesky has said he envisions using artificial intelligence to create a "travel concierge" that learns user preferences.
- The deal suggests Chesky may be looking to make Airbnb attractive to potential buyers, CNBC says.
