I think its fair to say that Gen Alpha is going to have an entirely different #worklife experience that millennials and Gen X. I think Jamie Dimon's 3.5 work week prediction is more than reasonable given how different most of us on LinkedIn work now vs pre-pandemic vs pre-social media vs pre-smart phone. https://lnkd.in/ex6gMpQ7? Any digitally native generation is going to have a significantly different experience than ones that may or may not have grown up with rotary phones in their homes ?? . So, I find it fascinating to read how other generations working traits were covered in the past. Does every younger generation go through the phase of older generations calling them 'lazy' and 'entitled'? Probably. I dug into this a little this morning and found this excellent 2017 piece in QZ from Sarah Kessler comparing commentary on Gen X in the 90s to millennials in the 2010s. “Any technology will displace jobs”. I would have to agree. #AI can be a high value add to businesses, removing tedious tasks that open up space for high value work for humans. Well I haven’t really seen the 4-day work week become prevalent in the US, so 3.5 days doesn’t seem likely anytime in the near future. That being said, I am skeptical ?? that AI will reduce the work week because I think working many, long hours is ingrained in the American ???? culture. Sure it’s evolving with new generations, but this big of a change might still be a ways off. However, I do believe AI will optimize work in great ways. Then we will fill in the freed up time sucked into our phones or another screen. Don’t you see that now, Coreyne? We’re done “working” but we can’t seem to clock the heck out mentally! ????

As someone working in the live events industry, I kindly ask that we proceed with caution. Although there are signs of improvement, it's important to note that some individuals have reevaluated their priorities and work-life balance during these challenging times ALREADY and only want to work 3.5 days. Fully agree as it has reduced cycles for my work output and deliverables to great effect from my POV. Also appreciate the focus on improved human metrics and not just shear productivity & the acknowledgement that some folks will be displaced due to the advent and scale of AI as it augments the workforce (cough, cough - shareholder value). + Jamie Dimon as usual is a good read. AI is a hugely powerful and transformative technology that greatly improves productivity, incorporating existing knowledge in its structure to process very large amounts of data in expert ways. One of the downsides is that it incorporates the biases of the programmers. It is as good as the programmers that train it., which are fallible. So, handle with care.
