Adobe drops new AI offerings

Can companies leverage AI for their core product? Adobe just announced how that's possible for mass consumer products. Starting at $4.99, they just released an AI assistant that can help you understand digital documents (PDFs, Word, Powerpoint docs), i.e. it "reads the documents for you" as Inc. Magazine put it. What could you ask the AI? - Ask questions to find sources in documents and which page they are - Compile certain information for you from the document including the quotations - Summarizes Information Adobe is quoted in the Inc. article saying it can save people between "2 and 30 hours per week..." The use of this could be huge, e.g. - for sales prospecting - Analyzing documents - or even financial analysis (has anybody tried this yet?) Generative AI is coming to Premiere Pro! I’m excited to finally share what we’ve been hard at work on: tools that solve real world editorial challenges. And explorations with OpenAI, RunwayML, and Pika Labs to bring third-party models into Premiere Pro. Most of all, I’m proud of Adobe’s leadership in responsible innovation and transparency with Content Credentials and the Content Authenticity Initiative. We’ve been doing AI at Adobe for a long time, and it’s always been rooted in amplifying creativity and reducing tedium. This is a big next step, and I’d love to hear what you think. The dream of working on products of this magnitude is why I went to grad school. It’s thrilling to be a year out of USC and in the midst of transformational tech.

Really enjoyed working on this story with Brody Ford: Adobe has touted its Firefly AI image generator as unique from rivals such as Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, but has also quietly trained Firefly on AI images (including, we know definitively, those from Midjourney) —?because it decided to incorporate AI-generated pictures from Adobe Stock into its Firefly training dataset.

Adobe has marketed its image-generating AI tool, Firefly, as being "non-exploitative." In other words, one of its selling points has been that it wasn't trained using copyrighted images, or images created by artists and photographers who weren't compensated for their work. That's been good for business (I'll link to a story on that, from MIT Tech Review, in comments). However, it turns out that Adobe's claims weren't entirely accurate. Rather, Firefly was trained (at least in part) on images created by another generative AI program -- which was trained on the images that Adobe said it wasn't using. Yet another twist in the tangled saga of generative AI and ethics in the marketplace. https://lnkd.in/eaNSRc3e
