A no vacation nation
The average U.S. worker took fewer than 12 days of vacation in 2021. That’s six days below the global average, according to a recent study from Expedia. One reason for the disparity could be large differences in paid leave policies from country to country. Workers in the European Union, for example, receive a minimum of four weeks of paid holidays. Meanwhile, in the U.S., workers don’t feel they can spare the cash or even fully disconnect from work while vacationing, so they skip time off altogether.
- Time off, however, is proven to help prevent burnout and increase productivity.
