- [Instructor] In this lesson, I'd like to share how you can truncate content and create custom excerpts for the homepage, archive pages, and in subscriber emails. Now, in some WordPress themes, if you write a long post and do nothing, that post will appear in its entirety on the blog index or other index pages like what we're seeing here. This is my homepage. But in other themes, like the one I'm using, it shows the default excerpt, which is just the first few sentences, and then the post is automatically chopped off and designated by this little ellipsis. If you have a lot of blog-post and your theme is loading them in the entirety on an index page, that could make it annoying to readers if they have to scroll through the entire post just to see the next one.
